Parambikulam Tiger Reserve (earlier Parambikkulam Wildflife sanctuary), set in a sprawling 643.66 sq. km area in the Anamalai region of the Western Ghats, is a highly protected ecological reserve in India. Evergreen forests, moist and dry deciduous forest, and shola forests make this region a diverse habitat. It is a home to several endangered animals and other endemic and rare species of herbs and plants. A large population of mammals (39 species), amphibians (16 species), reptiles (61 species), fish (47 species), insects (over 1000 species), butterflies (125 species) are found here. Plush greenery, green valleys, brilliant wild life, interesting peaks, and winding rivers continue to invite people from all around to the great reserve.
The reserve boasts of the first scientifically managed teak plantation in the world and is home to the tallest and oldest (350 years) teak tree, Kannimara, with a height of 40m and girth of 6.4m.
