Chimmini Wildlife sanctuary is situated on the western slope of Nelliyampathi hills in Thrissur district of Kerala state. Known for its lavish tropical rain forest, the sanctuary is a confluence of streams, mountains, and thick vegetation. The watershed areas of Kurumali river and Mupliam river form the main part of the sanctuary. With an area of 86 sq.km area, this protected region is rich with diverse flora and fauna. This region is particularly famous for umpteen varieties of butterflies, and which make the area literally colourful during the butterfly migration season. Chimminy dam is another attraction near to the sanctuary.
