Muthanga Wildlife sanctuary, part of Nilgiri biosphere reserve, is a scientifically-maintained region rich in biodiversity. This is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala. The forest reserve with moist deciduous and semi-evergreen trees and plants has a large presence of pachyderms, and due to this reason, the region has been declared as a project Elephant site. There is an occasional chance to sight tigers during the visit. The sanctuary is a home to many animals, birds, butterflies, and insects belonging to different species and class. A jeep safari or trek in the interiors of the forest will give you chance to spot freely roaming animals and chirping birds apart from endearing views of the green forest.
