Thenmala is India’s first planned ecotourism project. Located 66 kms to the east of Kollam City, it is an ideal tourist location with many natural attractions as well as activities like boating, trekking, mountaineering and rock climbing to engage in.

Dense forest, rubber and tree plantations create the natural setting of the region.  Visitors can go trekking into the Shendurney wildlife sanctuary and stay in a night camp at Thenmala. If you love a bit of adventure, go on 10 km cycling safari through the plantations. Boating through the Shendurney lake will allow you to enjoy natural beauty of ever green forest. Butterfly garden and deer rehabilitation centre for the rehabilitation of the strayed deer are worth-watching. Leisure zone, a forest garden opening into a sculpture garden portrays man-nature bonds through sculptures. Naksthtra vanam, a garden of 27 trees associated with birth stars, also invites everyone’s attention.
