Eravikulam National Park located approximately 7000 ft. above sea level is an area spread across 97 sq.km on the Rajamalai hills of Western Ghats. The park is a protected area for a wide variety of animals and plants, especially the Nilgiri Tahr, an endangered mountain goat of South India. Apart from Nilgiri Tahr, animals like golden jackal, jungle cat, leopard, Indian porcupine, ridley mongoose, dusky squirrel, Nilgiri Langur etc. are found here. It is also a haven for 132 species of avian varieties, 19 species of amphibians and many other endangered butterfly species. The flora varieties include rare orchids and wild balsams.
Characterised by extreme bio-diversity and high-altitude shola-grassland ecosystem, it is a famed ecotourism spot. People visit this spot to view the special Nilakurinji flowers that blossom once in every 12 years. Anamudi, the highest peak (2695 m) in South India is situated in this park.
