Peechi-Vazhani is a wildlife sanctuary situated in the basin of Peechi-Vazhani dam in the district of Thrissur. The sanctuary spread out in 125 sq.km is part of the Nelliyampathi forest established in 1958 and it is the second oldest in Kerala. The dense, deciduous, and semi-evergreen forest has an abundant store of trees, varieties of orchids and medicinal plants. It is also a peaceful habitat for animals such as tiger, leopard, deer, bison, and birds of different species. Thos who wish to engage in adventure activities can also get a share of the experience by indulging in trekking into the interiors of the forest, bird-watching, or nature camping. Months from October to march will be the ideal time for planning the trip.
