Silent Valley National Park is a vast area of tropical rain forest reserve famous for its tranquil nature. The name silent valley signifies the absolute silence marked by the absence of even the noisy cicadas. Silent valley which forms the main part of the Nilgiri Biosphere is set in the north-east corner of Palakkad district. The region comprising of 89.52 sq.km of core area was declared a World heritage site by UNESCO in 2012.
It is an amazingly diverse biodiversity with variety of flora and fauna. Apart from the wild animals like tiger, leopard, lion-tailed macaque, and Malabar Giant squirrel, the dense and wild jungle is a home to over 400 species of moths, 200 species of butterflies, 128 species of beetles, 1000 species of flowering plants and 110 species of orchids. One can explore the diversity, exquisiteness, and tranquillity of the park with the trekking packages arranged by the forest department.
