Thrissur pooram, known as the festival of festivals, is an annual temple festival grown into a mega spectacle with its ceremonies, greatness, and people participation. Considered as mother of all poorams, Thrissur pooram is celebrated in the Malayalam month of Medam (April-May) every year. Thrissur Pooram as we all know today, was re-organised into the present form by Shakthan Thamparuan, the erstwhile King of Cochin, in the year 1798.
According to the lore, Pooram is the celebration of assembly of Gods and Goddesses in and around Thrissur, and on the day, they visit the Vadakkumnathan temple premises. Ilanjitharamelam- a live orchestra including the panchavadyam and chendamelam, Kudamaattam- exchange of decorated umbrellas, and the grand firework on the final day are integral part of the Pooram.
