Our Lady of Dolours Basilica or popularly known as Puthen Palli in Thrissur is a Catholic church belonging to the Syro Malabar diocese. With splendid architecture and a height of 146 ft., it is the third tallest in Asia and the biggest church in India constructed in Indo-Gothic style. Originally, in the year 1814 the then Maharaja of Cochin, Sakthan Thampuran, conceived the idea of constructing this church in the town for the people who settled in Thrissur. The church what we see today has been built over a period of many years. Today, it is a major pilgrim centre of Christian devotees.
