Pottery making is the oldest known human vocation in the world. Kerala has a rich tradition in Pottery making. There are a few pottery villages in Kerala where traditional artisans belonging to Potters’ community are engaged in making different types of earthenware for household use. Ezhumangad in Palakkad, Aruvacode near Nilambur and Ponnani near Thirur are little hamlets known for their tradition in pottery making.
Realising the need for the modern-day needs, artisans are now reviving their talents and crafts in creating terracotta products in modern context. Apart from the kitchen utensils, now the range of products produce include landscape products, tiles, reliefs, interior décor accessories and reliefs. It is a magnificent experience to see the potters working with the clay while each product take shape in their skilful hands.
